AtzRはdimer×2のtetramerとして機能するTFで、片方のdimerはreverse方向下流の遺伝子(atzR)のリプレッサー(2つのrepressor binding sitesにそれぞれ結合)としてはたらき、もう片方のdimerはfoward方向下流の遺伝子(任意)をCYA存在下で活性化するアクティベーター(3つのactivator binding sitesがあり、通常時は下流の2つ(σファクターブロックにより遺伝子OFF)、CYA存在下で上流2つにdimerがそれぞれ結合)。CYA検出バイオセンサーとしての感度の高さを示した他、フリーズドライとrehydrationによるportabilityを実証。

応用可能性を示すだけの応用例が多い中、ここまで最適化をしているのは珍しい(というより、そうでもしないと最早論文にならない?)。
